We are inviting representations on a statutory notice to open a Communication and Interaction (Autism) Unit at Overstone Combined School, Wing.

Notice is given in accordance with sections 15 and 19 of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 that Buckinghamshire Council intends to open a Communication and Interaction (Autism) Unit with effect from 1 September 2025 at:

Overstone Combined School, Church Street, Wing, Leighton Buzzard, LU7 0NY

Together with the Governing Board of Overstone Combined School, we have considered the responses to the recent consultation on the proposal for the school.

Proposal to open a Communication and Interaction (Autism) Unit at Overstone Combined School

The Unit would have 12 places for children with Communication and Interaction (Autism) needs.

The 12 places would be in addition to the school’s mainstream places.

If agreed the Unit would open in September 2025.

What happens next

With the Governing Board of Overstone Combined School, we will consider all responses we receive.

The Leader of Buckinghamshire Council, with the Cabinet Member for Education and Children's Services, will take into consideration any representations made before making a decision on the final outcome. We expect this decision to be made by March 2025.

If the proposal to open a Communication and Interaction (Autism) Unit is agreed, it is anticipated that building works would start in April 2025. 

The new Unit would then open in September 2025. Pupil numbers would be gradually increased each year – until reaching the total capacity of 12.
