Help us explore a new Buckinghamshire Farmers Market and register your interest

Overview

Buckinghamshire Council logo

We are committed to supporting the farming community. With growing public interest in food security, food miles and sustainability, we are exploring an opportunity to create a new Buckinghamshire Farmers Market as part of our monthly Sunday Market programme in High Wycombe and Aylesbury. This is to help promote and celebrate local food, farming, and rural enterprise.

To be able to offer an opportunity that is valuable to you, we want to understand what already works, what gets in the way, and anything else that would make a new market worth your time.

Whether you currently trade at a market, have traded in the past, or have never considered it, we would value your experience and perspective.

The survey will take about 5-7 minutes to complete.

High Wycombe and Aylesbury markets

The historic market towns of Aylesbury and High Wycombe were once home to significant livestock and local produce markets.  While regular general street markets continue to operate in both towns, these serve a different purpose and customer base.

In 2024, we established The Sunday Market, a monthly speciality market running from May to December focused on artisan products. This is a clear point of difference to the general market shopping experience.

Many of our artisan traders are Bucks residents and we celebrate being able to offer this trading and showcase opportunity to bring the online seller and bedroom entrepreneurs ‘on the High Street’. The Sunday Market attracts a broader visitor base and encourages people to spend time and money in our town centres. We oversee the markets and they are managed day-to-day by a professional market operator on our behalf.

Market Square in Aylesbury and the Cornmarket in High Wycombe are our equivalent to the ‘agora’ of old: a meeting place and trading place. We are working across the council to use these key public spaces, to create places where people feel welcome, connected, and proud of their community.
