Buckingham Neighbourhood Plan submission consultation
Overview
We want to hear the views of local residents and organisations on the Neighbourhood Plan for Buckingham.
In November 2014, the Parish of Buckingham was designated a neighbourhood area by Buckinghamshire Council. This followed an application by Buckingham Town Council.
Buckingham Town Council has now completed a period of local community engagement on the Buckingham Neighbourhood Plan Review and have submitted the final version to us.
This is the first review of the Buckingham Neighbourhood Plan, which was adopted by Buckinghamshire Council in 2021. If successful, this reviewed Neighbourhood Plan will replace the current one.
The next stage of the process is for us, as the local authority, to carry out a public consultation on the submitted plan.
This is the final opportunity for local people to comment on the plan before it goes to independent examination.
The Buckingham Neighbourhood Plan includes policies to shape local development to:
- define a settlement boundary
- encourage development through housing allocations
- influence housing mix
- introduce design guidelines and codes
- identify Local Heritage Assets
- promote energy efficient buildings
- protect and maintain green spaces and infrastructure
- promote active and sustainable travel
- protect and support further provision of community facilities for culture, leisure and health
- promote economic development
- mitigate and manage flood risk

What happens next
Following consultation, we will collate the responses and submit them to an independent examiner.
The examiner will consider public comments and ensure the plan meets the basic conditions in the Localism Act and other relevant regulations.
If the plan passes independent examination, the next stage is a local referendum to see whether it has community support.
If the neighbourhood plan is supported, we will adopt it as part of local planning policy to assess planning applications in the neighbourhood area.
