A40 London Road, Beaconsfield Proposed 40mph Speed Limit

Closed 21 Jun 2024

Opened 31 May 2024

Overview

Buckinghamshire Highways are proposing to reduce the existing 50mph on A40 London Road between Holtspur Top Roundabout and Wycombe End (approximately 2 km) to a 40mph limit.

We are seeking your views on the proposal.

Background

A40 London Road is a heavily used route by local and commuter traffic. There is a footpath and series of junctions along the northern edge of the road leading into residential areas. In order to avoid danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road, and to prevent the likelihood of any such danger arising, speed assessment surveys undertaken by Buckinghamshire Council had deemed that the proposed 40mph would be suitable for the class of road and traffic survey information.

What We Are Proposing

We are proposing a reduction of the existing 50mph speed limit on A40 London Road to a 40mph speed limit between Holtspur Top Lane and Wycombe End. This will also include removing the terminal speed signs located at exit of Holtspur Top Lane to roundabout (as shown below in Figure 1) and Wycombe End (as shown below in Figure 2):

Figure 2: Existing terminal signs near Wycombe End

Furthermore, we would also be replacing all 50mph signs in all side roads/access (e.g., North Drive, Burgess Wood Road South, Burkes Road, Walkwood Rise, Butlers Court Road and Broad Lane) and repeater signs with 40mph signs.
