Churchill Avenue, Aylesbury - Tree Removals

Closes 11 Sep 2025

Opened 14 Aug 2025

Overview

Following recent geotechnical investigations being undertaken on Churchill Avenue Railway Bridge in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire Highways are proposing to remove a group of street trees located adjacent to the structure. In order to minimise the environmental impact of the removal of these trees, we are also proposing to plant new trees nearby.

We are seeking your views on the proposal.

Background

Buckinghamshire Highways were commissioned to undertake a geotechnical desk study report for Churchill Avenue Railway Bridge (Figure 1 below). The railway bridge has recently shown signs of longitudinal movement and settlement, which is visible at carriageway level.

The geotechnical report confirmed that one of the reasons the railway bridge was experiencing settlement was the group of trees that are situated adjacent to the bridge (see Figure 2 below).

What We Are Proposing

Considering the information above, Buckinghamshire Council are proposing to remove the group of street trees to mitigate any further detrimental impacts to the structure. As part of this proposal, new trees will also be planted to offset the number of trees that will need to be removed.
