94.3% of respondents support the speed limit reduction, with 5.7% objecting or were not sure about our proposal.

Several respondents asked for horse warning signs to be installed as well.

We did

We have produced a report of our findings and submitted it to the Council. They have approved our reccomendations of proceeding as advertised. The report can found here.

From Friday 16th August 2024, a legal order to reduce the existing speed limit of 40mph to 30mph will be effective.

Buckinghamshire Highways will start the Detailed Design process to show the locations of the signs and road markings.

We have also contacted the British Horse Society for their views on horse safety. As a result, we will include temporary posters warning drivers of horses on Magpie Lane.

Overview

Buckinghamshire Highways are proposing to extend the existing 30mph on Magpie Lane in Coleshill to cover the remaining section between Crosspath Cottages and Thatch Cottage (near the junction of the A355).

We are seeking your views on the proposal.

Background

The northern extents of Magpie Lane (from the junction with Chalk Hill and Windmill Hill to Crosspath Cottages) were reduced from the National Speed Limit (60mph) to 30mph following the 2007 County Wide Speed Limit. However, this did not include the remaining section, which was reduced to 40mph.

Note: In the map below, the section of Magpie Lane currently in a 30mph (denoted by a green border) is shown within a dashed black line border). The existing 40mph section is denoted by a blue border).

Subsequent speed assessment surveys undertaken by Buckinghamshire Council had deemed that the 40mph assigned to Magpie Lane is appropriate.

A long - standing desire by the Parish Council is to include the whole length of Magpie Lane into the 30mph speed limit.

What We Are Proposing

We are proposing to replace the existing 40mph speed limit on Magpie Lane with a 30mph speed limit. This will also include removing the terminal speed signs located near Crosspatch Cottages (as shown below in Figure 1):

Existing terminal signs for 40mph near Crosspatch Cottages

Similarly, we would also be removing the 40mph signs near Thatch Cottage (see Figure 2) and replacing them with 30mph signs. The 40mph road marking will also be changed to reflect the transition from a 50mph to a 30mph:

Furthermore, we would also be replacing the 40mph repeater signs in between the terminal signs with 30mph repeaters as well.
