Traffic Calming: Portland House, Arnison Avenue and Bowerdean Road

Overview

Give us your views on our proposals to introduce traffic calming measures and parking restrictions in and around Portland House, along Arnison Avenue, Bowerdean Road, Underwood Road, Rowan Avenue, Mayhew Crescent, Hillview Road and Adelaide Road, High Wycombe. 

This investment in High Wycombe’s infrastructure is being taken forward as part of Opportunity Bucks and High Wycombe Town Committee, to help improve road safety in areas affected by increased traffic, speeding and inconsiderate parking.

Concerns have been raised by the local community regarding anti-social driving behaviours in and around Portland House, along Arnison Avenue, Bowerdean Road and neighbouring roads.

These issues have resulted in inappropriate parking, traffic issues and road safety concerns, particularly in relation to increased speeds. 

Inconsiderate and dangerous parking has resulted in large numbers of vehicles parking on Arnison Avenue and Bowerdean Road, narrowing the carriageway.  

There are also concerns at key locations in the vicinity, especially near junctions, where drivers may not reduce their speed sufficiently and have parked close to or on the junction.  This can make it more difficult to navigate safely.

To address these issues, the Council is proposing to introduce traffic calming measures and parking restrictions in and around the area of Portland House, Arnison Avenue, Bowerdean Road, Hillview Road, Mayhew Crescent, Adelaide Road, Underwood Road and Rowan Avenue.

These measures are aimed at reducing vehicle speeds and improving safety for all road users, particularly in and around Portland House and key junction locations, as mentioned in the table below:

The results of the consultation and the Council's decision will be published on this webpage. Statutory Consultees will be informed of the decision once it has been made, via the website.
