School admissions consultation 2027

Changes to school published admission numbers

The published admission number (PAN) for a school is the maximum number of new pupils it will accept in a single year. Changes to the PAN usually occur when the local demand for school places changes.

An increase in the PAN generally reflects the need for more school places in the local area.

If a school's intake falls well below its PAN, this leads to pressure on its budget. This is because funding is received on a per-pupil basis, but the school is required to plan for enough teaching space, staff and facilities for the full number of possible pupils under the PAN. In these circumstances a school may decide to request a reduction in its PAN.

We are proposing to reduce the PAN at one school:

The proposed reduction is from 90 places to 60 places.

1. Do you agree or disagree with our proposal to reduce the reception entry PAN for The Disraeli School from 90 to 60?
