Chesham Conservation Area appraisal consultation
1. Proposed addition to the conservation area: Lowndes Park and Bury Pond
Lowndes Park originally formed part of the grounds of Bury Hill Gate (now demolished) and the Bury.
The park was redesigned as a public park in the 20th century, and in 1953 the majority of the park was conveyed to the Urban District Council.
Bury Pond and its environs (off Pednor Road) was also part of the former grounds of Bury Hill Gate and the Bury. The main features of the landscape are the Bury Pond and its environs, including mature trees and foliage.
As part of the historic grounds to Bury Hill Gate and the Bury, both Lowndes Park and Bury Pond landscape areas contribute to the special historic interest of the Conservation Area. They are also part of the wider landscape setting of the town centre and the church of St Mary.
