Chesham Conservation Area appraisal consultation
3. Proposed addition to the conservation area: Meades Water Gardens, Red Lion Street
The Meades Water Gardens is on the site of a former mill pond and watercress beds. The focus of the area is the River Chess, which is a key feature though the wider Conservation Area.
The area includes remaining historic features in the form of a sluice gate and Chalybeate Spring. The latter dates from 1820 and is a distinctive small red-brick and flint structure with castellations.
