We did

There have been no significant changes to the proposed designs for zones 2, 3 and 4.

Following the Leader decision on 23 January 2023, the project team will:

  • complete a detailed design for the scheme, following public feedback
  • proceed with the construction of the Aston Clinton traffic calming scheme

Overview

Buckinghamshire Council logo

We are proposing to introduce traffic calming measures along London Road, Aston Clinton to reduce vehicle speeds, reduce ‘rat-running’ and improve pedestrian safety.

Residents and the Parish Council in Aston Clinton have raised concerns about traffic using the village as a shortcut (rat running) and traffic speeds.

The Aston Clinton bypass was opened in 2003 and the initial impact on the village was positive. More recently, with a number of new and planned developments in the area, the increased volume and speed of traffic within the village has made the issues worse.

We have worked with Aston Clinton Parish Council and local Councillors to develop the proposals for this consultation.

The proposals have been assessed and aligned with Traffic Calming in Buckinghamshire guidance (PDF 8.48MB) and measures appropriate for this location.

They build on work the Parish Council has undertaken with the community and Bancroft Consulting as outlined in the Aston Clinton Neighbourhood Plan (PDF 6.97MB).

Not introducing new traffic calming measures has been considered.

However, this would result in the loss of secured developer funding and the village would not be traffic calmed in line with the objectives of the Aston Clinton Neighbourhood Plan.

We want to hear the views of residents and local businesses on our proposals. We will also contact statutory consultees.

Aston Clinton Traffic Calming Scheme

London Road, Aston Clinton has been divided into five zones with the aim of delivering a traffic calmed route. This has helped to secure funding from the appropriate developments to deliver traffic calming schemes.

Each zone is being considered individually but will form part of an overall and coherent traffic calming scheme for the village.

Location of the proposals on Google Maps: London Road, Aston Clinton

This consultation is for proposals in zones 2, 3 and part of zone 4 only. Funding from developers has been secured for these zones.

Traffic calming measures in other zones will be delivered by future developments and consulted on separately:

  • Zones 1 and 2 by Woodlands and Hampden Fields developments
  • Zone 5 by the planned RAF Halton development
