We seeked your views on our proposal to reduce the speed limit on the A4128 Wycombe Road, Prestwood from 40mph to 30mph. The speed limit reduction has been proposed to be from the junction with Lodge Lane to the north, to a point just south of the junction between Peterley Lane and Perks Lane.
Background and Our Aim
A desire by Great Missenden Parish Council, this proposal originally had gone through a local survey, with a majority of residents expressing their support in reducing the speed limit.
Following this survey, Buckinghamshire Highways has been asked to carry out the legal work in order to formally reduce the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph.
Our aim is to reduce the speed limit and to install speed limit signs and road markings within the extents in the table below:

101 respondents supported the proposal for reduction of speed limit from existing 40mph to 30mph, while 45 respondents opposed it.
Below is a summary of the support and objection to the proposals.
Support
Improves pedestrian safety, particularly for children, elderly people and those using narrow footways.
Reduces risks at the Perks Lane/Peterley Lane crossroads, where visibility is restricted.
Makes it safer for residents, businesses and community facilities to access and exit the A4128.
Addresses concerns about vehicles regularly exceeding the current 40mph limit.
Creates a more appropriate speed limit for a residential area with a church, nursery, pub and garden centre.
Objections
No strong evidence that the current 40mph limit is causing significant safety problems.
The road is considered suitable for 40mph due to its semi-rural character.
Lowering the limit will not be effective without enforcement.
The change may unnecessarily slow traffic and increase driver frustration.
We did
Following the consultation, a decision report was produced and submitted to the Council for a decision.
On 23rd Feburary 2026, the Leader granted approval for the implementation and introduction of the Permanent Traffic Regulation Order as advertised. This Order includes the reduction of speed limit from 40mph to 30mph on A4128 Wycombe Road (between Lodge Lane and Peterley Lane), Prestwood.
