Overview

Buckinghamshire Council is working to resolve and improve parking within Chesham Town Centre. We are introducing or amending restrictions to allow non- goods vehicles to access the pedestrian zones to make deliveries and collections during certain hours of the day.

We are seeking your views on these amendments before we consider whether the arrangements should be made permanent.

You have six months from the start of this trial period to voice any comments you may have. The ETRO can remain in operation for a period of up to 18 months.

What are we introducing/amending

We are proposing to introduce or amend several types of restrictions, which will include (but not limited to) the following:

1. Pedestrian Zone
2. Double Yellow Lines and Other Parking Restrictions
3. One-Way
4. No-Entry

These proposals can be found within Chesham on the following roads:

High Street (Between No. 1/2 and No. 51/52)

Market Square (From Church Street/ High Street to Red Lion Street)
Revoke "Pedestrian Zone"

"Pedestrian Zone - No Motor Vehicles except Permit Holders and Loading Mon-Tue, Thur-Fri & Sun 6am-10am & 4pm-6pm and Wed & Sat 6am-10am & 3pm-6pm")
Junction of The Broadway and High Street (Northern End of Existing One-Way System)

Junction of Market Square and Red Lion Street
Introduce No-Entry
Church Street (Junction with High Street and Market Square in a westerly direction to outside No.3)

Market Square (From its junction with High Street in a southerly direction to its junction with Red Lion Street)

High Street (Junction with Station Road in a southerly direction to its junction with Market Square)
Revoke One-Way System

These Amendments also include the following provision of charges:

Permit Type Validity Details Cost
Market Trader Access  Valid for all times except from 10am-3pm on Wednesday and Saturday To allow Market Traders to operate loading/unloading activity within the designated loading periods. £1.30 per vehicle per day
Market Trader Access & Parking Valid everyday except Wednesday and Saturday where it is essential for Market Traders to operate out of their vehicle, or in extreme weather were a vehicle is required to secure a gazebo. To allow Market Traders to access and trade from a vehicle. £15.00 per vehicle per day
or £25.00 per vehicle per week
Event Permit Valid for the period of an event.   £2100.00 for all areas of a Pedestrian Zone.

£1500.00 covering north section or south section only of Pedestrian Zone

What happens next

At the end of six months of the consultation period all comments on the trial amendments will be reviewed. If there are any changes to the ETRO prior to the deadline, consultation will recommence with a further six months to gather further feedback on the updated proposals.

We will consider these responses and prepare a report. The Council Leader will review the report and make a decision about the proposal. 

The results of the consultation and the Council's decision will be published on this webpage. Statutory Consultees will be informed of the decision once it has been made, via the website.
