HS2 Tranche 3: Preston Road, Gawcott Priority Narrowing

Overview

Overview

Buckinghamshire Highways is proposing to introduce priority narrowing (build-out) on Preston Road, Gawcott.

This scheme is being taken forward as part of the HS2 Road Safety Fund (Tranche 3) to help improve road safety in areas affected by increased traffic due to HS2 works.

We would like to hear your thoughts on the proposal.

Background

Gawcott has experienced increased traffic in recent years, including vehicles linked to HS2 works. This has raised concerns about vehicle speeds within the village, particularly on routes where vehicles enter into village at higher speed.

Preston Road is one of the main routes into Gawcott, and vehicles often approach at higher speed due to the rural road setting. Existing features on the approach have not been fully effective in reduction of speed, and concerns have been raised about overspeeding while entering into village.

Overall, this has made conditions less safe and highlights the need for measures to help slow vehicles as they enter the village.

Our Proposals

To address these issues, the Council is proposing to introduce priority narrowing (Build out) by reducing carriageway width and encouraging drivers entering into village to give-way to exiting traffic, resulting in reduced speeds entering the village and overall improvement of safety for all road users. Refer table below for location and proposal.
