We asked

Buckinghamshire Highways is proposing to deliver a cycling, walking and wheeling route between Pinewood Studios and Iver Station. The first part of this new route will be achieved through linking the existing Pinewood Road shared-use path with Pinewood Green. The aim is to make it easier and safer for people to travel without using cars, supporting greener travel choices and improving connections for local communities and Pinewood Studios’ growing workforce.

Our Proposals

We are proposing the following amendments in Iver.

1. Toucan Crossing (Signal-Controlled Crossing)

• Improves pedestrian and cyclist safety on a busy, high-speed road.
• Makes crossing Pinewood Road easier for access to Black Park, Pinewood Studios, bus stops and local facilities.
• Helps reduce risk from speeding traffic and HGV movements.

• Proposed location is too close to Pinewood Green junction and could create safety and congestion issues. 
• Existing demand is considered too low to justify a toucan crossing.
• Many preferred a zebra crossing or pedestrian crossing instead.
• Viewed by many as a poor use of S106 funding and causing unnecessary traffic delays.

2. Shared Use Footways / Cycle Route

• Improves facilities for walking, wheeling and cycling.
• Provides better connectivity to future active travel routes and local destinations.
• Encourages sustainable travel and reduces car dependency. 

• Existing cycle paths are perceived as underused and additional infrastructure is not needed. 
• Loss of parking and concerns about cyclists sharing space with pedestrians.
• Doubts that Pinewood Studios staff will use the route to travel to Iver Station.
• Some residents preferred investment toward Langley Station connections or other transport improvements.

3. Double Yellow Lines / Parking Restrictions

• Necessary to provide visibility and meet crossing safety standards.
• Helps prevent unsafe parking near the crossing and junction.

• Strongest concern raised by residents.
• Loss of on-street parking for homes without driveways.
• Potential displacement of parking into surrounding streets.
• Concerns regarding property values, deliveries, visitors and resident convenience.

4. Speed Limit Reduction (40mph to 30mph)

• Widely supported across both supporters and objectors of the crossing scheme.
• Expected to improve safety and reduce severity of collisions.

• Many requested extensions of the 30mph limit along a greater length of Pinewood Road.

• Main concern was enforcement rather than the limit itself.
• Residents questioned effectiveness without speed cameras or police enforcement.
• A small number felt 40mph remained appropriate.

We did

Following the consultation, a decision report was produced and submitted to the Council for a decision.
On 14th May 2026, a decision was made to proceed with implementing the TRO as advertised, subject to the following amendments:

Overview

The aim is to make it easier and safer for people to travel without using cars, supporting greener travel choices and improving connections for local communities and Pinewood Studios’ growing workforce.

We are seeking your views on the above proposals.

Background

Pinewood Road in Iver is an important route connecting the A412 and Five Points Roundabout to Pinewood Studios. Currently, the western side of Pinewood Road has a shared-use path for both pedestrians and cyclists, while the eastern side only has a short 270-metre footway near Pinewood Studios.

Although there are two informal crossing points between Pinewood Green and Pinewood Studios, these are not adequate for the high traffic volumes, high number of heavy goods vehicles and speeds during peak times, making it difficult for pedestrians and cyclists to cross safely.

In addition, many Pinewood Studios employees travel by car to the Iver Heath retail area, which adds to congestion and parking pressures around Thornbridge Road shops. Improving walking and cycling facilities will help reduce car dependency, ease congestion, and create safer, greener travel options for the community and studio workforce.
