B4009 Longwick Toucan Crossing
Overview

Buckinghamshire Highways is proposing to upgrade the existing informal crossing on B4009 near the Sportsman Roundabout by replacing it with a new signal-controlled toucan crossing, repositioned slightly further northeast. The scheme also includes new and improved shared-use paths to better connect the crossing with surrounding routes for pedestrians and cyclists.
We would like to hear your thoughts on this.
Background
Safety concerns have been identified at the Sportsman Roundabout on the B4009 Lower Icknield Way, where current traffic conditions do not provide sufficient safe gaps for pedestrians to cross, particularly on the northeast bound approach. The existing informal crossing makes it difficult for pedestrians and cyclists to cross safely.
In response, a scheme has been developed to introduce a signal-controlled toucan crossing, along with new and improved shared-use path connections. These measures aim to enhance safety for all users and provide better integration with existing and future walking and cycling routes.
Our Proposals
We are proposing the following improvements:
| Road Name (and Extents) | Proposal |
| B4009 Lower Icknield Way (Northeastern arm of the Sportsman Roundabout) | Introducing a new signal-controlled toucan crossing |
| A4129 Longwick Road, Thame Road (North to the Sportsman Roundabout) | Conversion of existing footway into shared use pedestrian and cycle facility |
| B4009 Lower Icknield Way (Northeastern arm of B4009) | New Shared Use pedestrian and cycle facility |
